The architect Renzo Piano used as a core design element for the entire complex: a local hard stone that facilitated an architectural dialogue between the historic buildings, the new architecture and the entrance to the city.

The world-renowned Italian architect that curated every last detail of the project gave maximum importance to every construction element, and chose Astec’s extruded architectural bronze windows and doors (ABX®) of the parliament building, as the perfect complement to the local Maltese stone used on the façade of the Parliament building and throughout the complex.

The choice of using local stone by the design studio was the element that allowed to establish a dialogue between the old buildings, the new constructions and the entrance to the city, becoming the common denominator for the project.

The project is located in an important area of the Maltese capital, already protected as a World Heritage Site, close to its famous and impregnable sixteenth-century walls, but which required an architectural and urban reorganization project.
