Intervening on a masterpiece from the first half of the 14th century requires a perfect synthesis of technical excellence and deep respect for history. For Giotto’s famous Campanile, in the heart of Florence, we took care of the complete refurbishment of the stairs (steps and handrail), the wall paneling and the upholstery, making each element custom-made in architectural bronze.

The intervention required engineering and logistical solutions that could meet two major challenges:

Historic preservation and reversibility: We designed a minimally invasive installation designed to preserve the integrity of ancient masonry through nimble structures that can be easily removed if necessary.

Logistics of the highest precision: In order not to hinder the daily flow of thousands of tourists, the work was organized with surgical timing. The installation was completed in only two total weeks during the year (divided between laying the paneling and assembling the staircase), meeting deadlines with absolute rigor.

The choice of architectural bronze, a noble and living material par excellence, stems from the desire to dialogue in perfect harmony with the stone of the building. The exclusive medium burnishing finish reflects and enhances the chromatic tones and historical soul of the Campanile, inserting the new elements into Giotto’s work with silent and refined elegance.
